Commonly used the term is used to describe the largest species from this family, the red kangaroo, and the antilopine kangaroo, the gray kangaroo in the east, and the gray kangaroo in the west. Kangaroos are native to Australia and New Guinea. The Australian government estimates that 34.3 million kangaroos lived within the Australian commercial harvesting area in 2011, up from 25.1 million a year earlier. As the terms "wallaroo" and "wallaby", "kangaroo" refer to the collection of paraphyletic species. All three refer to members of the same tax family, Macropodidae , and are divided by size. The term "wallaroos" refers to a medium-sized species. There are also tree kangaroos, another type of macropod, living in the tropical rain forests of New Guinea, northeastern Queensland, and other islands in the region. A general idea of the corresponding size for these random terms would be,tree kangaroos: from the Lumholtz-kangaroo tree: 48-65 cm long body and head, 60-74 cm tail, 7.2 kg (16 lb) for males and 5.9 kg (13 lb) for females ; on a grizled-kangaroo tree: 75-90 cm tall (30 to 35 in) and weighs 8-15 kg (18-33 lb).
kangaroos: the adult male is about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) tall and weighs 90 kg (200 lb). Kangaroos have large, strong hind legs, large jumping legs, a long tail with moderate muscle mass, and a small head.
Larger kangaroos are much better suited to smaller macropods to clean up arable land and to monitor changes in the lands introduced by humans in Australia. Many small species are rare and endangered, while kangaroos are very numerous. The kangaroo is an Australian symbol, comes from Australian clothing and some of its own currency, and is used as a symbol for some of Australia's most well-known organizations, such as Qantas, and as a ring for the Royal Australian Air Force. The kangaroo is an important part of Australian culture and the national symbol, and as a result there are many popular cultural references. Wild kangaroos are shot with meat, skin skins, and to protect their grazing land. Despite the controversy, kangaroo meat has seen health benefits of human consumption compared to traditional meat due to its low fat content in kangaroos.
